Welcome to Savvy Career

The number of unemployed Americans hovers at roughly 12 million with the number of long-term unemployed at close to 5 million. If you add in the number of under-employed Americans, the number is even more striking. If you are one of the unemployed, you may feel isolated, forgotten, and scared. These are tough times, and tough times call for creative solutions. It is no longer the case that getting a college degree or even a master’s degree is enough. You have to have the right skills for the right employer at the right time. You have to be able to market yourself in a way that makes you stand above the other hundreds or thousands of job seekers for a particular position.

This challenge is not only due to a lack of jobs, but the fact that we are experiencing a fundamental shift in the job market toward freelancing and contract work. With this shift comes much opportunity for folks with a creative and entrepreneurial spirit. Technology makes it easier than ever to start a business online, and connect with potential clients. But the shift to this new economy is not without pain and uncertainty. This blog is dedicated to navigating this new economy whether you are pursuing full-time work or attempting to create your own job in this Great Recession. Let’s figure it out together, and share our fears, our ideas for innovation, our success stories. We will find a path together to thrive in this new economy.
